Societas Europaea Herpetologica (SEH) is a specialist herpetological
society with nearly 350 members from most of the European countries and elsewhere. Members
receive the quarterly journal Amphibia-Reptilia (indexed in Current Contents), which
publishes papers in English and includes SEH News. International
conferences are organized at different venues in Europe usually every
other year. Members can participate at reduced fee. SEH is an international
non-governmental member of IUCN - the World Conservation Union. The organisation is
controlled by its statutes and the Council, whose members are elected at Ordinary General
(Business) Meetings. SEH has two Committees. The Conservation Committee is concerned with
conservation of the herpetofauna in all parts of Europe and adjacent regions, and members
form the European Reptile and Amphibian Specialist Group of the IUCN Species Survival
Commission. Results of the Conservation Committee’s work are published in
Amphibia-Reptilia and elsewhere. The Mapping Committee is devoted to plotting species
distributions, and has published the Atlas of amphibians and reptiles in Europe (Paris,
1997), available to members at reduced cost. SEH is using its webpage to develop a
Pan-European Herpetological Network that will announce meetings and bring information to
the attention of herpetologists and national herpetological societies throughout Europe
and elsewhere. Further details about the Society, including a list of publications,

Ordinary member € 75 The normal membership dues include a contribution of € 2,50 to the work ofthe Conservation Committee.
